When one speaks of the aesthetics of film, with regard to the director of photography, we often blend great pictorial references: painters, great photographers… Obviously… we can’t ignore them, but this is our work, with every shot we would consider the previous shot – it’s rhythm, the use of a pan, the speed of movement, in the case of a fixed shot, the speed of movement of the actors. The shot about to be filmed has to take into account the shot that will follow. And so on. Hence, there is a prevalent sense of rhythm in the general aesthetic balance of the film.
